When you are preparing delicious meals at home, you will want to have the best olive oil brands in your kitchen to add to your favorite recipes. Olive oil is considered one of the healthiest types of oils that can protect your body from cardiovascular disease. Using olive oil is better than using animal-sourced oils that can damage your arteries and heart. If you add olive oil to foods, then you will feel more satiated after consuming a meal.

Where Can You Buy High-quality Olive Oil?

There are many types of olive oil at local supermarkets, but a high-quality olive is bottled by a small company that really cares about its products and only sells it online. Extra-virgin olive oil has a delicate flavor and aroma that makes it suitable for using as a dip for bread in addition to adding it to salad dressings. This variety of olive oil is sold in protective glass bottles after it is sourced from Italian producers.

The Tastiest Olive Oil Is Sourced from Europe

When a chef wants fine olive oil for a restaurant or you want the tastiest olive oil for the meals you cook at home, it is essential to find a company that offers a specialty product. You want to buy an olive oil that has been derived from the finest olives so that it is low in bitter acids. In most cases, this type of olive oil is sourced from Greece or Italy where most olive oil is produced.

How You Can Use Olive Oil

In Italy or Greece, most olive oil is produced on family-owned farms that still use ancient stone presses to obtain the oil before storing it in wooden barrels. Traditionally, extra-virgin olive oil is used without heating it in recipes, but you can also use it for sauteing vegetables or deep-frying fish. It is also useful for oiling pizza and bread pans to keep the dough from sticking to the metal.

Store Olive Oil Correctly

To ensure that olive oil maintains its nutritional value that includes vitamin E and K, experts recommend keeping the bottles in a cool and dry location away from direct sunlight. If you buy a bottle of olive oil that is in a darkly tinted glass bottle, then it has more protection from the dangers of sunlight that can destroy its delicate flavor and nutrients.

Surprise stew

Imagine it’s almost dinner time and you haven’t been to the grocery store to pick up your usual staple of groceries. What do you do? The kids have to eat. As you anxiously look through the pantry and the fridge, an idea forms in your head. Why not make a stew with what you already have.

Gathering Ingredients
Most stews are great if you have any leftover carrots or potatoes to add a little bulk to the mixture. Add any other veggies that you like as well. To create a rich thick consistency, use gravy mix or add a little flour along with some seasoning. Combine all these ingredients in a large pot and set the flame or cooking level to low. The vegetables should cook slowly to allow the flavors to marinate.

Adding Meat
This is an area where you can get extremely creative. Use any meat that you desire. This will add a richness to your stew and create more balance and flavor, now that both meats and vegetables are represented. You may even want to throw your meat of choice on the Grill grates outside, to give the stew a smoky grilled flavor. Season the meat accordingly.

Rice or Noodles?
Rice or noodles can be added to the medley to round it out. You now have a meal that represents all the major food groups. Meats, vegetables, and bread/carbs are now represented in this surprise stew. Stir your mixture and taste it after it has cooked for awhile. Does it need anything else, perhaps onions or a pepper or two? Add your own twist to this stew. When the stew is almost done, taste it again. Is the flavor rich enough? Are the vegetables cooked enough? Make any final tweaks to your masterpiece before ladling the stew into bowls for the kids.

Learning to use what we have in the kitchen is a great way to get rid of leftovers and still put together a freshly reinvented meal in a pinch. Imagination and creativity can be your best friends because stew allows you to be very creative. Using what you have increases your cooking skills and helps you to save money by cutting down on foods that would otherwise be thrown away due to spoilage or age. Take a shot, skip the grocery store for a day and see what kind of magic you can whip up.

Pizza from left-over breads

bread-pizzaThere are times when we almost lost ideas as to what to prepare for breakfast, I know most moms can relate to this scenario. Our family is used to eating bread every morning for breakfast, most of the time we have eggs cooked sunny-side up or hotdogs, cheese, butter or peanut butter.

So to veer away from the usual, since I have some ingredients in the pantry and fridge, I made this bread pizza from left-over sliced bread and buns. Not only for breakfast but also for afternoon snack or merienda, and the kids love it.

  • Breads, if buns slice into halves
  • Spaghetti sauce for pizza sauce or you can use catsup or tomato sauce
  • shredded cheese or better if you have melted cheese
  • hotdogs sliced or diced for the toppings
  • or you can add ham, bacon or any available toppings on your freezer
  • you can add onion rings or bell pepper rings, the choice is endless
  • bake in an over or bread toaster for 10 minutes or until the cheese melts, and you’re ready to go. Chow!!!
